UPDATE: The NZARES 2021 conference will now be online on September 2nd and 3rd
"What’s next for the Primary Industries?"
The NZARES committee has decided that with the current COVID-19 alert level and cases in the community, the NZARES conference and pre-conference will not go ahead in person this year.
The safety of our members and adherence to COVID-19 rules and guidance have guided our decision.
We are disappointed that the timing of this outbreak has meant we can no longer get together as a society in person, however,
we are putting our best efforts into changing the conference format to an online conference like we held last year.
We will hold the NZARES conference online via Zoom next week (Thursday 2nd September – Friday 3rd September). We will be able to provide links to online sessions and finalise details (including the contributed paper programme) this week.
Unfortunately with the online format we will not be able to hold the pre-conference field trip or the conference dinner.
Registrations for the online conference
We are aware that now the conference is changing to an online format, more of you may be able to participate which is great. For this reason we are keeping registrations open on our website until the end of the week.
Refunds
If you have already registered we will contact you in the next week or 2 to provide refunds for dinner, catering and venue expenses.
We are working to confirm the fee we will charge to break-even for this event.
Conference theme
Our Key Note Speaker for the conference will be Professor Nicola Shadbolt from Massey University who has vast experience as a farmer, forester, director and academic. This year we have organised three panel sessions on important topics and we will have con-current contributed paper sessions on various themes. A follow up panel on the “Impacts of Covid-19” will be held to provide an update on New Zealand’s recovery and the prolonged impacts on the primary industries and supply chains as Covid-19 continues to shape how we live in 2021. A panel session on “Climate” will be held and will focus on what primary industries can do to reduce emissions, what the potential impacts will be, and an update on the He Waka Eka Noa Primary Sector Climate Action Partnership. There will also be a panel session on “Sustainable and Innovative Practices” with a focus on regenerative agriculture, ecosystem services and productive riparian buffers.
